Brief History of Santa Ana-
Santa Ana, the largest city in Orange County, with a population of approximately 325,000 people. Santa Ana the city started as vast flower covered fields, part of the Yorba family’s Spanish land grant. In 1869 Bill Spurgeon bought 74 acres of land that eventually became the modern city of Santa Ana.

Santa Ana has always been the political center of Orange County. When Orange County was formed in 1889 after separating from Los Angeles, Santa Ana was chosen as the county seat. Over the years, a dramatic increase in population brought serious changes to the downtown area. Huge apartment complexes sprang up everywhere in Santa Ana, and in general the city fell into disrepair. In the 1980s a redevelopment program began that is continuing to restore the city’s once proud heritage. So, while the vast flower covered fields may never return, Santa Ana is now called “The Golden City” by the city leadership.

Santa Ana is surrounded by the cities of Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Tustin and Irvine. The Santa Ana Freeway runs through the city, as do the Costa Mesa Freeway and Garden Grove Freeway . Current attractions in Santa Ana include the Bowers Museum, the Discovery Museum, Discovery Science Center, the Santa Ana Zoo, Santa Ana Artists’ Village and Fairhaven Memorial Park.
