Brief History of Tustin, CA-
The city of Tustin was founded by Columbus Tustin, a Northern California carriage maker, and his partner Nelson Stafford in 1868. They purchased 1,300 acres of what had been the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana for the price of one dollar and fifty cents per acre. Mr. Tustin attempted to create " Tustin City”. Sales of home sites were slow, as a result Mr. Tustin gave away free lots to anyone who would build a home. In The 1880’s, Tustin begun its reputation as the area leader in education.
Tustin is also known as the “the city of trees” because it has a variety of trees that date back centuries, to the time of early Spanish explorers. Some historical buildings remain in “old town” in Tustin. “Old Town” Tustin is an area centered around a group of historic buildings located on Main Street and El Camino Real which date back to the 1880s. Among the early businesses and structures in Tustin were a blacksmith shop, a grocery store/market, a business and feed store building, churches and school buildings.
Old Town Tustin has a variety of restaurants and specialty shops. One well known restaurant in old town Tustin is the Black Sheep Bistro & Market with fun foods from the Mediterranean Coasts of France, Spain and a hint of Italy.
